fourth day of Christmas Weaving

This day has three name bands. None of the recipients reads this blog, so stealth is not an issue. One more reason that I love my Nomi, the ability to do quantities of 1 - 5 or 6 without feeling that I have wasted a lot of warp.

third day of christmas weaving

this day needs to have santa's vest. True, it is not weaving, but it sucked up a good number of hours that I otherwise would have spent weaving.
And Santa is too cute for words.

This is just the santa side of the vest. The other side has reindeer and a green plaid back and pockets.
Now back to weaving.

first day of christmas weaving

on the first day of Christmas weaving I finished two nomi projects.

the first was a varigated green band with tan edges

the second was 4 rainbow bracelets and one more rainbow napkin ring for Maryann. 2 down, 2 (or 6) to go.

Not bad for the first day of Christmas weaving. Well begun is half done.

Can't wait for tomorrows finished weaving....

the twelve days of christmas weaving

I am setting a goal because, really, I don't have enough to do.  I will weave something each day leading up to christmas and post it on the blog.
I hope that this will alleviate two issues: get some weaving done, and get presents finished for the holidays!
Yes, I know that there are 21 days left until Christmas. posting something on 12 of those days may be the best that I can do. I am nothing if not realistic.

I had best get started. On to the first finished project!

wish me luck...

if it wasn't for the last minute...

I had a brilliant idea.

However the brilliant idea was preceded by weeks of 'I got nothin' and completed the axiom 'if it wasn't for the last minute, I would never get anything done'

My brilliant idea was adding a personal touch to a white chef's hat and apron by adding a lettered inkle band that said 'I heart meat' - it was the prize for meatiest chili in our local chili cook off this past weekend.
My flash of inspiration came at 6:30am, and I had warped for the two color pick-up--that I apparently did not understand-- I wove only a trifle, and, well,  blech, so I cut it off at 9:40am. I went home for the cones of yarn, and changed the size of the pattern thread, got back to warp by 10:20, warped up and began to weave. Pick-up. and letters.
Many people walked up to me to ask what I was doing, and I finally got a little terse(the first several conversations went like this)

What are you making?
An inkle band.
That looks complicated!
It is.
what is it for?
A prize for the chili cookoff.
You mean today?
Yes.
Right now?
Yes (glance at clock) in 40 minutes.
that's (insert favorite- insane, crazy, ambitious, cool, interesting, amazing)

But the band was finished, and was stitched to the hat before the contest was over.

After the fact what do I call it?

Done.

Swag

Around here it has been swag, swag, all the time. And gnomes.
We are prepping for the Minnesota Federation Retreat, this weekend, and for the first time, my daughter is going to join us. She will be a vendor handling her gnomes and buttons, my Nomi looms, Dennis Matter's merino wool roving and felt batts, and Verilette Bell's wool.
I will try to post some of the non-secret swag if possible.
I still want to post a project or two.

Life is busy.

four reasons to weave

Fair, Federation, Fall and Feliz Navidad.

the annual gathering of fiber artists that is federation gives me a chance to weave. more specifically it kicks me into high gear and makes me afraid not to.
State Fair came too quick this year. watch out 2013...
Fall has not been kind this year. spare time is experiencing a major drought.
the holidays.... that may be another story....

will post.

soon.

oh my

in the category of extreme inkle weaving, my entry is this...

with my finger for scale. I found some fabulous rayon in very vivid colors, and am loving how it weaves up, very silky and shiny.

lots of weaving, not so much writing.
I have been weaving patriotic ribbon for a float in a local July 4th parade. There could be as many as 60 people walking along with the float. The ribbons are intended to be worn pinned in place with a small flag pin. I am on my 5th and final warp to make 59 bands. Yes, I can count. I may be one short. I should make an additional band-just to be safe. we will see how soon this one gets done.

Inkle details-the band is warped with 10/2 perle cotton. the weft is 8/2 or 5/2 perle cotton. Haven't made these for a while, but it is for a very good cause.

If you make it to the Delano 4th of July Parade, watch for the float, Remembering our Sons and Daughters.

Happy Valentines Day

Heart bookmarks for my small group, my Cubbie Leaders and then some!
This is why I love the tiny loom. I can make 5 bookmarks in no time at all, and I could put on a warp for two or three without any trouble. It is much less daunting than warping a larger inkle loom. It just feels more spontaneous.

Anyway, Happy Valentines Day all!

bald sheep, brown sheep, and varigated...

enough sheep already. I need a sheep photo shop. I have been posing my knitted sheep toys-then looking for the camera.
Do I know how to procrastinate or what?
Now it is turtle time.

If All Else Fails, Knit a Sheep

Ok. Having convinced myself that I still know how to knit, I am willing to retry the hat. But if it drives me to drink, At least I will have cute cuddly company.

Sheep, Sheep I say.

And a squishy.

stupid gauge

OK. so NOT ready for prime time. who knew that gauge and needle size and handspun could create the perfect storm of ripitbackagain.
I need to weave and remind myself that I am good at something.

Meanwhile back on the ranch...stuffed sheep. one nearly done, one half done, and I think that I am about ready for a new color for my sheep. For Elsa.

I'm so selfless.

the hat
